Wie sich in der Boysenbeere die Brom- und Loganbeere kreuzen, so verbinden sich in den fotografischen Arbeiten von Philipp Treudt und Jakub Končír Tag und Nachtzu einem immersiven Diskurs über die diverse Subkultur Kölns. Mehrere Monate lang begleiteten die Fotografen die Musikformate SOUND SOUND und Funky Bambi und zeigen die Künstler:innen in ihrem Alltag sowie im kulturellen Kontext nach einer vom Stillstand geprägten Zeit. 

 

Während PhilippTreudt tagsüber ins private Umfeld der Künstler:innen eintaucht, begleitet Jakub Končír diese nachts in der Bar Zum scheuen Reh zu ihren musikalischen Performances. So gehen beide Fotografen vor allem der Frage nach, inwieweit eine weltweite Krise Lebensweisen- und Einstellungen von Künstler:innen beeinflusst hat, was gleich geblieben ist und was sich für sie verändert hat. Die Antwort findet sich im Kontrast der fotografischen Arbeiten, die nicht nur Neuorientierung und Isolation, sondern auch Austausch und Gemeinschaftsgefühl von Künstler:innen und Publikum aufzeigen. Auf diese Weise zeigt sich die besondere Bedeutung des Musikclubs als prägender Bestandteil des kulturellen Lebens einer Großstadt — eine Heterotopie, die in Zeiten des Stillstands nicht statisch geblieben ist, sondern sich vor dem Hintergrund des gesellschaftlichen Wandels stets weiterentwickelt hat. BOYSENBLACK&WILDBERRY die Identitätssuche einer Lockdown-Generation als synergetischen Befreiungsschlag von den Einschränkungen der Pandemiezeit und porträtiert im Zuge dessen ein kollektives Ausleben lange zurück gestellter kultureller Sehnsüchte. Text: Thomas Venker und Šimon Končír

Just as blackberry and loganberry cross in the boysenberry, day and night are combined in the photographic works of Philipp Treudt and Jakub Končír to create an immersive discourse about Cologne’s diverse subculture. For several months, the photographers accompanied the music formats SOUND SOUND and Funky Bambi and show the artists in their everyday lives and in the cultural context after a period of stagnation.

While PhilippTreudt immerses himself in the private environment of the artists during the day, Jakub Končír accompanies them to their musical performances at night in the bar Zum Scheuen Reh. In this way, both photographers primarily investigate the extent to which a global crisis has influenced the lifestyles and attitudes of artists, what has remained the same and what has changed for them. The answer can be found in the contrast of the photographic works, which not only show reorientation and isolation, but also exchange and a sense of community between artists and the public. In this way, the special importance of the music club as a formative part of the cultural life of a big city is shown - a heterotopia that has not remained static in times of standstill, but has constantly developed against the background of social change.
